02:58 – Work, Life & Balance
Janet’s says… that you need to decompress for a few to go back and get back to work!
- Janet’s needs the energy candle in the wintertime in her office and that’s the first thing she does when she goes to her office and light the candle
- Then, she reads a passage from the book called “Experiencing God Day by Day”
- It’s about slowing down and taking a breath and getting her to do list together before starting to get on the computer
Breathing is also a key factor to physiology.
*Yoga changes the physiology of our body by breathing” Smoking was so popular because it included breathing and taking time away for a few minutes. Our breathing, our breath becomes different and it’s so important if you want to change the state of mind that you’re in, breathe different. So, inhale for a three-second or a ten-second period, hold it for a three to ten second period and exhale for a similar amount of time.
…And if you make that change in your breath, even just five breaths you can actually change the waves that happen in your brain you can get. A theta state like a “Theta brain waves” and so it increases the creativity, it increases your presence to what’s going on. It’s so important. You can just sit in your chair straight and you just breathe.
11:40 – Terry say’s an alternative instead of napping, which is a great way reenergized, but you don’t even have to do that, you can just change your breath!
Thomas Edison used to put a metal pan underneath his image by his chair and hold some coins in his hand and he would sit back in his chair and he would get into a state where he was almost asleep and when you fall asleep, the moment you fall asleep his hand would naturally open the coins would fall out, they’d hit the metal pan and he would wake up and whatever he was thinking about would be super clear and sometimes it actually be the solution of the problem that he had. So he would think about that issue.
Working on it allows subconscious to get triggered because you would fall into a different state and then he would wake up because of the coin to the metal pan and he’d be able to actually address that issue.
13:12 – Focus App – twenty five minutes working on- five minutes off!
- Take that time, it creates greater efficiency and it optimizes our activity
- Sleep is a big part of the work-life balance
- You have to listen to your body and so many of us don’t take the time to do that
As you get older, you start to become more attuned and more aligned with who you are, but we need to start figuring that out earlier in life. Realistically, our education system does a disservice because that is such an element of our success. Understanding who we are, how we behave, and how we function.
15:54 – You can’t truly achieve work-life balance if you don’t first achieve Work Work Balance!
- You’ve got to find some way to actually make the work you’re doing enjoyable, even if it’s just tied to the future goals and the things you get as a result of work. If you’re not figuring out a way to get through the day at work, you couldn’t possibly achieve work-life balance enough.
…So many people that absolutely dread Monday are super excited about Thursday and Friday as the best thing they’ve got .
Monday’s are good for getting stuff done and being productive for both Janet and Terry.
- When you’re productive it helps, it makes you feel good and we’re getting done, it’s definitely putting the positive check mark in the world
A key thing is when you’re getting interrupted constantly from client calls and emails and messaging, we tend to feel like we were productive, but maybe we weren’t productive at all, maybe we’re just really busy.
20:27 – Janet’s and Terry’s, Work from Life!
- Everybody should have a separation of work from life. A lot of people are working from home now.
- Taking care of your body is a very important piece of work
- Put it in your schedule because for sure work expands to fill the time allotted
- You can’t forget about your family, just because you’re working yourself to that
- Separate your home from your work time
- Terry likes getting to the gym for getting his mind right for the day
Declutter
- If it’s all chaotic and clutter around you it does affect your productivity, because clutter around us is almost symbolic of the clutter that’s inside of our head
- It has been documented that you are more productive with the getting rid of the clutter
- Even folders on your desktop are more efficient when organized
30:52 – Action Steps!
1. Separate it – Especially if you’re working in your home you’re not going to an office, try to separate it and set a schedule
*We have flexibility to work what we want so just make sure it’s separated and you know when you do see that that pile of laundry during the time that you’re supposed to be working, let it be!
- Do what works for you but make sure you separate that- whatever we say it works for us, it doesn’t mean it’s going to work for you.
- Take the time to figure out who you are and how you work best and what your peak state is and how you get there and understand your circadian rhythms.
* Many people are night people and can’t stand morning but they’re forced to get up and work in the morning. Don’t do that!
2. Put it in your calendar Work expands to fill the time
- Make sure that you’re doing what’s important to you in a daily basis, reading, gym, daily take care of you!
