I was going to say the same thing, how are you?
Good, good. Or you know, I was trying to think of an E word for all of my, what was the, feelings today.
All the feeling that went on? Is an appropriate word because it was definitely inappropriate. I don’t, oh wait no, it’s inappropriate my bad.
It was, it was. So that’s our conversation today. We’ve had, I know Terry just had a little vacay. You enjoyed the lake, it sounds like.
We’re going to talk about that because I think it’s an important topic about how you mix work with vacation and how you get back into work after vacation. I think that’s a great subject for later. We have a blab now.
Yeah, we are talking about Blab but yeah and I kind of force a lot of work upon him. I force a lot of work on him, I’m kind of oh we have to record a show.
I found a show but wasn’t really a show. That was just trying out to see if we could do a show, maybe sometime.
Exactly. Exactly. So I thought, you know what, it’s perfect to talk about the subject because what we’re talking about is we tested out with Steve Caggiano this morning, who happened to be our last guest on our show. So if you didn’t catch the last podcast he was the very last guest on the show. I believe that was show number 62. And we actually tested out this new platform called Blab.im.
B-L-A-B dot I-M, yeah, real simple.
Exactly. Exactly. And it’s easy… What’s your thought on it, first thoughts?
So my initial thought were it’s kind of cool, right. I really like the ability to have up to 4 people in a session at one point. And if you could get them where they’re not talking over each other, which is always going to be a problem when you have four people, it was really powerful. So that’s my opening thought. What’s y our opening thought on it?
My opening thought was is that, time out one second. Hold on. Okay. Okay, time out. My initial thought was it, I love the platform, the layout of 4. It’s almost like the Brady Bunch type thing with the 4. And everybody’s face shows at the same time which is different from the Google Hangouts. So I love that side of it that you’re able to see all the people at the same time and it’s not flashing on and off, on and off, that kind of thing. So I do really like that. Obviously we talk to them and we had tech issues on the side of the sound because I could not get the sound turned up. Like right now you’re, you’re not even full blast and we can definitely hear the sound a lot better. So hopefully

Same thing. You’re using the same tools?
Well Google Hangout vs. Blab.im, I mean
What I mean laptop, same hardware, same, you’re not on a phone now? Where you using your laptop earlier?
Nope, both were laptops. Exact same situation. I could just hit the volume and if I went all the way to max right now you’d be almost, you’d be too loud. So yeah they must have their settings set a little on the low side.
Okay. Alright. Well that’s interesting.
The other side of things is, yep Gina said she can hear you good. So yeah, now she can definitely hear you but this morning it was tough. The other side of things that, you know, they don’t have, will never have is they’re not Google. So let me add to that. So it’s not going to be recorded and put on to YouTube, which adds another piece for us when we’re doing our recordings, obviously the YouTube power. So there’s that side of things. There’s good, bad, you know, we don’t have, we don’t focus on our YouTube, so it wouldn’t be the end of the world for us to get rid of that piece. So it’s just something to go.
An SEO, right, and SEO, and last time I’ve heard Google was kind of something, right? That really sure, maybe they were the OEMs, I don’t know.
Oh they’re always changing, they’re always changing. But that YouTube’s pretty good with the SEO piece. I mean if you do things properly, but we’re really focusing on our podcast and we really like the live interaction. And that actually, the thing about Blab.im is it forces you to be live. We have no choice, do we?
I love that! I love it, I love it, I love it. The other thing that I really like about it even a step up from where we are here on Periscope, we are on Periscope, the ability to comment back to those commenting to you. So instead of having to address them verbally, even as a presenter you can type back and be part of that string, that thread of conversation. What I don’t know is how you can go back and capture any of the information. Chris Brogan just did a Periscope about Periscope today. And why he, coz he’s kind of bad-mouthing the tool a little bit. And he was talking about, it’s just silly, this is not a marketing tool. I keep telling you quit focusing and worrying about the tools to begin with, but there’s no marketing here, right? I can’t really engage with any of these people. And then last I watched the replay and then I try and write everybody’s names down really fast, it’s never going to happen. I know for me, never going to happen.
Well on Periscope though if you’re using katch.me, K-A-T-C-H dot me and you go in afterwards, you can, I’ve actually sent people messages because anybody that comments on your Periscope you can go in and it’s all listed. You can click on their user name, it takes you to Twitter and I’ve sent messages, thanks for joining me on Periscope, you know, I’ve re-marketed to them after the fact. So if you use the right tools with all these different things, it can become a marketing tool. So you know, he might not even know about katch.me if he’s not using it, you know, that kind of thing.
You can pull people if they didn’t throw katch.me out. So that’s a great tip, you’re sharing a great tip. That was shared a few times. So and one of the things that we learn here about Blab was that there are already third party developers making additional apps to play with, to tie in to it, make it more powerful and user-friendly, even though technically they don’t have an app yet, right? They didn’t, they definitely have Android and I don’t think they have an iPhone version yet. Did they or did I miss that?
Stephen hadn’t said that I believe if you go to Blab.im, I haven’t tried it yet /iOS but you can’t get it in the App Store yet. But you know I’m not a hundred percent certain. If he’s still on he could type in here but yeah, I’m not sure. The other thing, here’s the other side of it, it’s almost scary to me. You know it’s cool that you can have people in constantly. You know you could bring people on if you want to in and out. It’s really cool but all I know is I now am going to wear makeup everyday of my life because I’m watching this and I have
You’re like, I just got caught at the front of the class, I was not ready. I didn’t read the assignment man. I’m not pretty enough to be talking.
So the world is like arrggghhh, you know I mean it’s just kind of a crazy world that we live in where, you know, boom, yeah, you can get called. It’s exactly I wasn’t raising my hand, I really wasn’t.
And to answer the question and so that’s an interesting thing, right? The host has the ability to allow different people to come into the conversation again up until up to 4 people. So it’s kind of cool that it’s moderated to an extent but once they’re in, they are in. And I think only they can get themselves out. I didn’t ask Stephen that question.
Ohhh.
There might be times, maybe once in a while, you never really know, possibly somebody hops on and then just starts talking and takes over the conversation. I don’t know if that ever happens but it could.
It did happen today, I’m like, woah, I don’t know what was his name.
Holy cow I’m like, okay we have to get back to what we were doing before you started talking about a bunch of stuff that had nothing to do with what we’re talking.
Stephen, Stephen just said you do, you can boot people out.
You can boot people out, okay.
That’s great.
I didn’t think about it though and I’ll give him that. You’ve got to jump in and start chiming in and at least be excited about it, that’s how.
Exactly. No, it’s a great platform, I think people should try it out. It is in beta so it’s not quite, you know, not all the pieces are, and honestly technology. And that’s something I’ve always, I’ve been able to embrace technology. Some people are scared of technology. But it’s one of those things where hey, you and I had no Idea how we were going on it but we just said hey, we’ll go with it, you know, let’s have fun. And it ended up working out.
There were messages between us a minute and a half before we went live about not knowing how to go live.
Exactly.
Something to be said about that, it’s kind of cool. And you’re right, you just make it happen, you just go out and do it and it becomes a thing. So my other favorite part about it and I talked about this during our session is the idea that I love the concept of bringing four people together to have a conversation, I think that’s a great number from a networking perspective to learn about people to get better connected. And you can do it in a minute. You can organize it. The cool thing is you could schedule it and let people know when it’s going to happen and people can subscribe to it. So you could put something out for two hours from now, three days from now, that was neat!
Yeah, yeah. That’s definitely neat. Stephen said he wanted us to have a real “blab” experience so we did. We had a real blab experience.
Stephen’s an excellent digital sure-buff. He’s my new social sure-buff, that’s what I’m calling him from now on.
Exactly. Well that’s all we have today. We just did a really really quick one to talk about Blab.im and I hear they’re just ramping it up so it should be good. I’m looking forward to trying it and testing out more. We did do this on Google Hangout just coz I’m not quite ready for that jump with our show yet, but it will be fun to test this out a little more in the future.
